Nanci Smith Relocation to southern California yielded a Ski Instructor position with Moorpark College, as well as an Officer post with Los Angeles County Probation, there Nanci provided sports instruction with incarcerated youth until she was recruited by the private sector to fill an Athletic Director position at an adult mental health facility. She was successful in building a community based athletic program that continues to operate today. A move to Oregon brought Nanci and her family clean air and beautiful water. Nanci committed over a decade of work as a Mental Health Therapist, as well as a few years as a mental health facility Administrator, and Youth Transition Specialist. These days she enjoys spending summers on the water and winters chasing storms. Nanci attributes the skills she brings to Blue Turns to the variety of work that she has done. "Working with athletes at a college- or World Games-level requires a knowledge of mechanics and motivation as well as a firm grip on deep coaching technique. Working with folks who have special needs keeps your sense of service sharpened, and working with kids calls for a lot of energy and a decent sense of humor. I've been fortunate, I've worked with so many different kinds of folks. The impressions that they've left with me over the years have contributed to a philosophy that makes my ski school unique, and my coaching staff stellar." |
